Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on Sitemaps

I am currently using Google Sitemaps (uploading a text file and submitting in Webmaster Tools)
But I have read that it may be better to use a simple HTML sitemap instead. Also to not submit anything to Google.

I have a link to the XML sitemap at the footer of my homepage:-
Steptoes XML Sitemap

But will it be better practice to use an HTML version that users can actually use to navigate?
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

I would like to prefer you to use both sitemap in your site. Html sitemap help you to give easily way for crawling site each pages from one place. Even xml sitemap help you to get also some interesting information from google webmaster tool regarding your website such as- robots.txt inclusion, site interlinking, external linking, remvoe any site url from google database and more.

So I would like to suggest you to use both sitemap on your site.

Cheers,
Amit

There are no predefined rules for using dynamic and static sitemaps. It depends on your need. If your website needs frequently addition for the pages then avoid HTML sitemaps because you will have to update it manually while for site needs rare page addition the static (HTML) sitemap will be better choice.
