I download a YouTube video, and try to import it to Windows Movie Maker to add some visual effects. So I download YouTube video to my computer first, and then drag it to Windows Movie Maker. But it doesn't work. Windows Movie Maker can't recognize the video file.
If you encounter the similar problem, you should read this post. It shows how to solve this problem correctly step by step.
Firstly you should know that the accepted media formats of Windows Movie Maker are as following:
Video files: .asf, .avi, .wmv, MPEG1, .mpeg, .mpg, .mlv, .mp2, .wm
Audio files: .mp3, .wav, .wma, .snd, .au, .aif, .aifc, .aiff
You should download and convert YouTube videos to Windows Movie Maker format and then import the converted videos to Windows Movie Maker.
Step 1: Download and convert YouTube videos to Windows Movie Maker.
Generally speaking, you need a video accelerator and a video converter. You can use Leawo Video Accelerator. This program combines video downloading and video converting into one. With it, you can easily and fast download YouTube video and convert it to Windows Movie Maker format.
Step 2: Import the converted videos to Windows Movie Maker.
Click the 'File' menu, then choose 'Import into collections' from the dropdown list, a window will pop up, in this window, navigate to the converted YouTube video in your hard drive, then double click on the file. Now you can see the YouTube video is in the Windows Movie Maker 'Collections'. Done!
