The Secret Steps for Optimizing Your Website
Looking at the ranking positions of your websites is very exciting. Within a day or two you may realize that your rank jumped up hundreds of thousands! Why one should care about website ranking? – Better ranking means better business, more income, …
So, you start looking around how to make your websites better and better.
You may wander from where to get that ranking information, first? – Visit www.Alexa.com, click on Traffic Rankings, enter the web address and click on Get Traffic Details button. You can download Alexa toolbar, to keep the ranking information handy.
Here comes the time to start tuning the websites for the top spots. You have to make them friendly for the search machines as Google, Yahoo, MSN ….
The following steps may have significant contribution on improving your ranking positions.
Step One: Create a search friendly header on each of your websites.
Create a habit to Right Click – View Source on the websites of the best in the business. Look at the information they use under the
tag.
The first time I took a look, I saw a lot of Meta tags there. I turns out that Meta tags are used by search engines to help index your website. They are placed between the
tags of the webpage.
A typical head section contains the following meta tags:
HEAD
TITLE Keep it under 60 characters long /TITLE
META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"
META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="keyword1, keyword2, …, keywordN, "
META NAME="Description" content="Keep it under 150 characters long"
META NAME="Robots" CONTENT="Index,ALL"
META NAME="googlebot" CONTENT="index,follow"
META NAME="revisit-after" CONTENT="15 Days"
META NAME="Rating" CONTENT="General"
META NAME="Language" CONTENT="en"
META NAME="distribution" CONTENT="Global"
META NAME="Classification" CONTENT="Your Category"
/HEAD
All you need to do is replace the CONTENT part with the text, relevant to your website. Some recommendations to follow:
• Keep the TITLE under 60 characters long
• Keep the META NAME=”Description” content=”under 150 characters long”
• Be careful with charset. Improper choice may change the outlook of your page
You do not have to go too far to find good examples on Meta tags. If you View Source frequently on a different websites, especially top ranked, you’ll learn a lot about how to use Meta tags. You’ll be able to spot and implement the latest trends immediately and get the benefits of that, too.
Step Two: Crate robots.txt file to optimize the access of the search machine.
Robots.txt file in your root directory dramatically increases your website spiderability.
Here is a simple creating process:
• Open a simple text editor as Notepad. Copy and paste the text below:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
• Save As robots.txt (Do not forget “s” at the end of the “robots”)
• Upload the robots.txt file in the root directory of your website, where the index file is.
You can generate your own code by visiting the website below:

Step Three: Use Comment Tags to help search engines on indexing your website.
The text part on your page may not be optimal for spidering by the search engines. Here comes the comment tag hint. Put them on top of the text to tell the search engines what is in the text. For example:
‘<!—FOREX indicators --> comment will be followed by the text block. It may be a list of FOREX indicators, their advantages and disadvantages”
Step Four: Increase the keyword density on your website.
Keyword density is the number of times a keyword appears in relation to the other words.
Here is another example of using TITLE in A HREF tag:
A HREF="webaddress" TITLE="Online Currency Trading" - for more information on FOREX Market.
That helps search engines to index your website and increases keyword density. Use words relevant to the overall website content, only.
There is a bunch of "Keyword Density Analyzers" available on the Internet to test the value of your keyword density. Go Google it!
Step Five: Write and submit articles.
This is the most important step to follow if you really want to improve your rating. Writing your articles in the very beginning is a good way to start. No matter how good or bad they are – just start writing.
You’ll never become a good writer if you do not write articles. It is a process and it takes some efforts. Start from what you know and gradually expand the limits of your knowledge.
The time will come, when your ideas for articles will be more than the time to write them. At that point look for “ghost” writers. There are dozens of websites offering that service.
Send them your idea and wait for the bidding price. For a decent amount of money you can get an article with excellent quality.
Submitting articles is time consuming work, too. Using software for submitting is a risky and not recommended way to go. Search engines start monitoring for explosion of links and punishing those websites.
Choose a moderate but safe way for article submission. Do it at least once per week and the results will not delay.
The above 5 steps are very simple and affordable for every newbie. They’ll take a little time to be accomplished, but your website ranking will be influenced from that, soon.
Getting more power on Internet has multiple side effects and you’ll be able to enjoy them, when they come to you.
If you are reading that now, that time is not so far away for you!
