ADSL 2+ broadband in the UK is the latest DSL technology offering. Broadband speeds of up to 24 Mbps and more - impressive speeds in comparison to other current Internet connection providers.

Whilst 24 Mbps ADSL 2+ broadband services sound mighty impressive, there are a few tips worth taking note of - and here they are:

1. You Get Up To 24 Mbps +. Always read the broadband provider's terms of service and FAQs section. Find out what speeds you can attain from their service.

ADSL 2+ speeds, like ADSL, SDSL and other DSL technologies, are influenced by several key factors. These include the quality of the copper line, the length of the copper line, and signal interference from other users or devices.

Will you really get 24 Mbps (24 Megs - it sounds cooler) connection speeds? According to the leading ADSL 2+ broadband companies, if the quality of the copper is perfect, and there is no line noise, you will receive 24 mbps up to a kilometre from the exchange. The maximum speed users would achieve would most likely be around 22 Mbps.

Emphasis is of course on the if. If your line is two kilometres long then expect to achieve maximum speeds a lot less than this - perhaps 15 Megs.

As with all DSL connection methods, an ADSL 2+ bandwidth will decrease further as line length increases. It could well be the case that you receive 5 Mbps or less.

Do bear in mind that using ADSL 2+, you still achieve far better speeds than you would if you used an ADSL [up to 8 Mbps] broadband service; you just won't connect at near-optimal speeds.

2. Read The Terms of Service and FAQs. Essential advice - read the provider's terms of service - same as you would before signing up with any other Internet service provider. Offering fast 24 Mbps bandwidth is great, but make sure you're getting a good deal.

3. ADSL 2+ Availability. To receive ADSL 2+ in your home or office, a broadband company must place their own broadband equipment in your local telephone exchange. Known as Local Loop Unbundling (LLU), providers can offer you faster bandwidth using ADSL 2+.

There have been some issues with the LLU process, with early ADSL 2+ adopters experiencing delays in setting up connections, stability issues and other technological nuances.

There you have it - 24 Mbps ADSL 2+ broadband in the UK. Do your research, make service comparisons, and you'll be well on your way to a faster Internet experience.
